Kinsta Hosting Review – Why Migrate to Best Managed WordPress Hosting

Kinsta Review – Why Migrate to Best Managed WordPress Hosting

Kinsta Hosting is no joke. It has been a top performer, and it is evident from the fact that it has hit the top ranks 5 years in a row (as per their blog post).

Mark Gavalda is the mind behind Kinsta. He founded the company in 2013, and it has grown exponentially since then. In 2022, Kinsta extended its services beyond managed WordPress hosting to accommodate applications and databases on its platform and introduced free static site hosting in 2023.

Features – Kinsta Managed WordPress Hosting

Kinsta is a feature-rich hosting platform. Let’s find out by going through its features one by one.

1. Role of Google Cloud Platform – A Great Architecture

Fastest Infrastructure to Speed up your Site - Kinsta Hosting
Fastest Infrastructure to Speed up Your Site – Kinsta Hosting

To provide the best performance possible for a hosting provider, Kinsta has partnered with one of the leaders in cloud service providers, the Google Cloud Platform. This partnership is one of the key highlights in our Kinsta WordPress Hosting Review, showcasing how their infrastructure excels in speed and reliability.

Google Cloud is known for its features, including the ability to scale in seconds, container support, blazing-fast networks, and so on. The use of container technology has opened up new ways for Kinsta to manage and improve its hosting service.

A container is a virtualized space within a server with its own software and applications. An orchestration solution manages the containers, allocating resources individually to each site. Also, each WordPress container consists of its own PHP, MySQL, and Nginx and comes with a generous amount of CPU and RAM resources.

The infrastructure of Google Cloud Platform’s Premium Tier network plays a crucial role in its speed and performance. You can also choose from over 37 server locations, giving you options in every possible way.

Furthermore, Kinsta utilizes Google Cloud’s fastest C2 and C3D virtual machines for enhanced performance.

2. Installation and Staging

As Kinsta is a managed hosting, you will get WordPress pre-installed on your instance. You can do the one-click install and set it up.

But, what makes Kinsta unique is its one-click staging environment. Yes, you can set up staging with one click. It adds value to the owner to create a development environment and make changes. A restore option is available if something goes wrong. You also get backups at the staging area.

With the help of the selective push feature, you get to choose what you would like to push live; files only, database only, or both.

3. MyKinsta Dashboard

Kinsta offers a user-friendly dashboard to its users. Unlike cPanel, the MyKinsta dashboard is beaming with modern UI and information that really matters to you.

You can quickly glance over the website’s health, learn how many resources your instance is taking, add users to your site, utilize numerous MyKinsta tools, like Application Performance Monitoring, Edge Caching, Early Hints, Redirects, API, access and download invoices, and much more!

The dashboard is crafted keeping users in mind, and that ultimately reflects in their design philosophy.

4. Kinsta WordPress Hosting Customer Support

All you need to do is connect with them through “no waiting lines.” Yes, you get instant access to their customer support team, which is available 24/7/365. Skilled WordPress experts offer support to users.

Kinsta also offers 24/7/365 support in non-English languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Japanese, Danish, and Dutch).

5. Free SSL and Enterprise Grade Security

If you use Kinsta, you are eligible for a free wildcard SSL certificate. Moreover, you do not need an expert to install it. The dashboard lets you install the SSL with a few clicks.

Kinsta provides a free wildcard SSL service through an enterprise Cloudflare integration. The wildcard SSL allows you to secure your subdomains. Once done, your website will now be redirected through HTTPS. It means that the data transmitted between the server and the user stays secure.

Kinsta automatically adds the wildcard SSL powered by Cloudflare when you add a new domain. Check out below for more details on how to add a domain in Kinsta.

This also leads us to the security aspect. Kinsta Hosting knows that security is essential. That’s why they take every measure to protect your website against third-party malicious attacks.

Kinsta performs continuous malware scanning using advanced detection algorithms that monitor file changes in real-time. The system scans for over 100,000 known malware signatures and behavioral patterns, with automatic quarantine of suspicious files. Scans run every 5 minutes during high-risk periods and hourly during normal operations.

They use DDoS detection, GCP and Cloudflare hardware firewalls, uptime monitoring, and much more! The Cloudflare Enterprise integration provides protection against DDoS attacks up to 100+ Gbps.

Kinsta maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance for Security, Availability, and Confidentiality, demonstrating adherence to strict data protection standards. Kinsta provides ISO 27001-compliant hosting; this compliance means that users can trust the company with their data. Any user can request access to their reports.

Additional Security Features

  • Hardware Firewalls: Multi-layered firewall protection at both Google Cloud and Cloudflare levels
  • IP Blocking: Automatic blocking of malicious IP addresses and geographic restrictions
  • Two-Factor Authentication: Account-level security for dashboard access
  • SSH Key Management: Secure server access with encrypted key authentication
  • Uptime Monitoring: 24/7 monitoring with instant alerts for any security incidents

If you use Kinsta’s free Cloudflare SSL certificate, renewal is automatic. Add and verify your domain in MyKinsta, then add a CNAME record for _acme-challenge. This record ensures automatic SSL renewal.

The wildcard SSL certificate covers all subdomains, including ‘www’ and non-‘www’ versions. For example, if your domain is yourdomain.com, it also works for:

  • shop.yourdomain.com

If the _acme-challenge CNAME record is missing or removed, add it back to renew the SSL.

When your Kinsta SSL certificate is due for renewal, you will get a notification 30 days prior, and you can easily renew SSL from within the Domains tab in MyKinsta > Get TXT Record > Renew SSL.

If you prefer to have a custom SSL, Kinsta also supports that, and they provide detailed documentation for obtaining a custom SSL certificate.

Kinsta Managed Hosting Performance Review – Speed Tests

We performed several tests on a demo WordPress site hosted on Kinsta.

How We Tested Kinsta Hosting

For this Kinsta review, we set up a fresh WordPress installation on Kinsta hosting, using the Astra theme and a premium eCommerce template. Added some demo content to ensure the site resembled a real-life scenario.

Then conducted performance tests using:

  • PageSpeed Insights (for both mobile and desktop),
  • GTmetrix,
  • WP Hosting Benchmark WordPress plugin, and
  • TTFB (Time to First Byte) Test on 8 locations across the world.

Please note that these results are based on a standard WordPress demo site with no optimizations applied. The page loading speed can be significantly improved by using a WordPress optimization plugin.

The server performance excels in most areas, and I am glad and excited to share the results with you. These results will certainly give you a glimpse of Kinsta’s performance and help you make an informed purchase decision.

These exceptional scores put Kinsta in the top 5% of hosting providers globally.

The overall Google PageSpeed Insights score for both Desktop and Mobile tests was very good.

  • Desktop Performance: PageSpeed Insights score was 99, with an LCP of 0.8s, showcasing exceptional desktop performance.
  • Mobile Performance: The PSI score on mobile was 86, with an LCP of 3.6s, highlighting the good mobile performance with some room for improvement, which can be easily improved using a Performance optimization plugin like FlyingPress and Perfmatters.

Check out the image below for details.

2. GTmetrixL 100%

The perfect GTmetrix score indicates excellently optimized performance that follows all recommended best practices.

100% GTmetrix performance grade, with an LCP of 591ms and TBT of 18ms, demonstrates that Kinsta’s infrastructure delivers content faster than 95% of websites tested on the platform.

The same demo site was loaded completely in just 813 ms, showing faster loading times. Follow the image for more information.

3. WP Hosting Benchmark

We also tested the performance of Here are Kinsta WordPress hosting using the WordPress Hosting Benchmark Tool Plugin. The results are amazing:

  • Server Performance: Achieved a comprehensive score of 8.5 out of 10, demonstrating excellent overall performance and faster loading times.
  • CPU & Memory: Operations with large text data scored 10, while iterative mathematical calculations scored 4.74, indicating strong performance for text operations but room for improvement in complex calculations.
  • Filesystem: Filesystem write ability scored 9.68, and small file IO test scored 10, showing robust file system performance.
  • Database: Importing large amounts of data scored 6.12, while complex database queries scored 10, suggesting potential optimization is needed only in the case of large data imports.
  • Network: The network download speed test scored 10, indicating excellent network performance.

4. TTFB Test Kinsta Hosting

Based on the Time to First Byte test results for Kinsta Hosting, performance across global locations is impressive. TTFB ranges from 117.51 ms to 798.14 ms, with North American locations performing exceptionally well, because we selected the US data center during hosting setup.

The DNS resolution times are generally quick, mostly under 6 ms, so the average Response Time was 2.59 ms.

Kinsta’s 457.01ms TTFB average falls within the “good” range and comfortably passes Google’s Core Web Vitals requirements. However, there’s room for improvement to reach the “excellent” threshold.

Industry TTFB Standards

  • 0-200ms: Excellent (Google’s original recommendation)
  • 200-600ms: Good (passes Core Web Vitals)
  • 600ms+: Poor (fails Core Web Vitals assessment)

TTFB represents 40% of your Largest Contentful Paint score and affects 4 out of 6 Core Web Vitals metrics. Kinsta’s performance ensures your pages start loading quickly, providing a solid foundation for overall site speed.

Free Static Site Hosting by Kinsta

We also took Kinsta’s new static site hosting for a spin and are pretty impressed with what they offer.

Free Static Site Hosting by Kinsta
Free Static Site Hosting by Kinsta

First off, the fact that you can host up to 100 static sites for free is a game-changer. As someone who juggles multiple projects, this is a huge plus.

Setting up the first site was a breeze. After exporting the static version of our WordPress site using the Simply Static plugin to GitHub — we just connected the GitHub repo with Kinsta, tweaked a few settings, and boom, the site was live.

The speed is no joke either. I ran some tests, and the load times were consistently snappy (less than 700ms), thanks to Kinsta’s use of Cloudflare’s global network. Static sites were loading faster than the WP-PHP sites hosted on the same account.

However, the free tier comes with limits on build minutes and bandwidth. For most of the projects, this should not be an issue, but it can become a problem for larger, high-traffic sites.

Overall, Kinsta’s static site hosting is a solid choice, especially if you are looking to host multiple projects without breaking the bank. Just keep an eye on those usage limits, and you will be golden.

  • Seamless integration with Cloudflare for enhanced performance and security.
  • The strict capping on the monthly visitors is based on your hosting plan.
